Overview
The ICP was European and American web3 founders. About 3,000 of them were enriched via Lusha and emailed, and the total campaign cost, enrichment and sending included, was $600. Five interviews came out of it and one converted into a $115.5k retainer over 13 months, roughly 190x the campaign spend. On paper the conversion is thin. On lifetime value it was decisive.
A budget that ruled out most of the stack
Six hundred dollars covers enrichment and sending and nothing else. There was no room for paid amplification, no room for a large tooling bill, and no room to run the campaign twice.
The drop-off nobody staffs
The expensive part of cold outbound is not the send, it is the recipient who clicks through, finds a static page, and leaves. That visitor is the warmest signal the campaign produces and is almost always wasted.
Thin conversion on a small list
Three thousand contacts is not a volume play. Every stage after the click had to convert well, because there was no second cohort behind it.
Tidalstead’s Approach
We always start from first principles thinking. With a budget this small the only lever left is what happens after the click, and that lever is almost never pulled. So the spend went where it always goes, and the attention went somewhere else entirely: the landing page was treated as a storefront, staffed by a person, during the hours the campaign was live.
Spend the budget on reach, and only reach
Lusha enrichment and sending infrastructure for ~3,000 founders, at $600 all in. Nothing else was bought.
Staff the landing page in real time
Live chat was installed and staffed during campaign windows. When a recipient clicked through, a human waved and said hi.
Convert in-session, not in a sequence
The conversation happened while the visitor was still on the page, catching drop-offs the email alone would have lost, instead of chasing them later with follow-ups.
Results
- 3,000 founders enriched and emailed for $600 all in
- Five interviews, at roughly $120 each
- One converted into a $115.5k retainer over 13 months
- A three-digit ROI multiple on total spend
Conclusion
The campaign’s economics were not decided by the email. They were decided by whether anyone was home when the recipient arrived. Staffing the landing page during campaign windows turned the warmest signal cold outbound produces into the one deal that paid for everything.
